Meet your DuPont guides

Lisa Bertolo (Interview and hiring process)

Lisa acquired her B. Sc. Hons (Biological Chemistry) from the University of Guelph; her Ph. D. (Chemistry) from the University of Guelph. She has been at DuPont for 2.5 years. Her current role is Research Scientist.

My day-to-day activities involve planning and executing experiments, reviewing process safety surrounding experimentation, analyzing analytical data on samples from experiments, and discussing results with customers and the team to determine a path forward.  My duties also include reporting experimental data electronically for archival and IP purposes, drafting technical reports to transfer research as required, and managing the budget for the project on which I work.

Daniel Padmos (Early career scientist)

Daniel has a MASc in Biomedical Engineering and a PhD in Chemistry. He has been at DuPont for 2.5 years. His current role is Research Scientist.

I am a Research Scientist at Kingston Technology Centre (KTC, also known as EIDCA Specialty Products Company!). I have been here for about 2.5 years and have been enjoying every minute of it. Although my background is in biomedical engineering (MASc work on orthopaedic implant surface modification chemistries) and physical chemistry (PhD work on nanomaterials design and characterization), I have had all sorts of new, different, and exciting experiences at KTC. Currently my responsibilities include project management of technical programs including process/product development, hazard mitigation design, scale up planning and execution, coordination of process operation and reporting, and customer technical engagement, to name a few!

Jeffrey S. Downey (Internal training opportunities)

Jeffrey has a PhD in Chemistry from McMaster University. He has been at DuPont for 20 years. His role within DuPont is Technical Manager of Materials and Application Development.

Leader of a large group of researchers supporting businesses ranging from Safety and Construction, Electronics and Imaging and Nutrition and Biosciences focusing on late stage development and commercialization of new technologies.

Dominik Wechsler (Promotion opportunities)

I earned my Ph. D. degree in Chemistry from Dalhousie University focusing on Organometallic Chemistry Ligand Design followed by a post-doctoral fellowship at Queen’s University in Philip Jessop’s lab.  I am at just under 6 years of experience with DuPont at the Kingston Technology Centre. I started out as a Research Scientist for scale up and chemical process development for new product and process evaluation for different types of polymers. More recently I have moved into a supervisory role where I am responsible for the day to day operations including safety and health, budget management, scheduling, technical support, plus more.

Lucas Applegarth (Day-to-day routine at DuPont)

Lucas has a PhD in Physical Organic Chemistry and Chemical Physics. He has been at DuPont for 3.3 years. His current role is Research Scientist. He works on the Strategic Material Technology Development Operations Lead and Chemist project.

Lucas is a operations leader for small teams in pilot plant and small batch manufacturing for chemical process development programs. I am responsible for safety management, planning and scheduling of operations, support Hazard assessments and MOC processes, and Standard procedure. As the lead chemist in these programs I am too responsible for chemical analytics, quality control and project owner to environmental management systems.

Judy Cipot-Wechsler (Managerial roles at DuPont)

Judy Cipot-Wechsler is a Technical Manager at the DuPont Kingston Technology Centre (KTC) in Kingston, Ontario.  As part of the Kingston Site Leadership and Technology Engagement Teams at KTC, Judy has been a member of several global technology teams since joining DuPont in 2010. As part of her role, Judy interfaces with extended networks throughout DuPont to develop technology transfer packages that support the commercialization of technologies by leading research programs for various DuPont businesses (e.g. biomaterials and electronic materials). In addition to this technology-focused role, Judy manages the KTC leveraged Analytical Services Group which is an internal organization at KTC that partners with technology programs to deliver high quality analytical data.  Judy is originally from Calgary, AB, where she completed a B.Sc. (honours with Co-op) in chemistry at University of Calgary followed by a Ph.D. at Dalhousie University in organometallic chemistry. She completed an NSERC post-doctoral fellowship at Queen’s University in materials chemistry prior to joining DuPont.

Stuart Fergusson (DuPont connections between locations)

Stuart earned his PhD in Chemistry at Queen’s University in the field of organometallic reaction studies in Mike Baird’s lab.  He has worked at Dupont for 32 years, all in R&D and all out of the Kingston scale up facility.

Over the years I have worked for many different DuPont business units, predominantly in the area of chemical process development.  I have travelled around the world to support scale up efforts in different regions.   I would call myself an industrial chemist but a lot of what I do could be described as chemical engineering.   My current role is to lead projects that take a process from the lab to commercial scale.  This includes defining the technical program to reduce risk, leading the team to demonstrate the process at various scales and conducting techno-economic assessments for business case analysis.
